Democracy No More?

I heard Kerry on TV today talking about how he's going to "restore democracy" to America. Is he suggesting that we don't have a democracy right now? I'm not at all sure what he means by this or if he really intends to imply that Bush has taken away our democracy. This is the kind of empty meaningless rhetoric that spells trouble for Kerry. So long as nothing substantive comes out of his mouth, I'll remain confident about Bush's prospects in November.

A guy who writes for the National Review was making just that point today on Fox. He was pointing out that Kennedy was implying that Bush is scarier than Bin Laden, North Korea, and other such real threats. The fact is that many Democrats are in denial about such threats, and as such are ill-equipped to deal with them.

Perhaps Kerry was referring to the fact that we actually have a representative federal form of government, and he plans to install a true democracy in the United States, in which every citizen votes on every issue.
And, frankly, I imagine the fact that he never says anything substantive only helps his chances in today's America.

I'm just glad that Clinton can't run for President again. I think that the American electorate of today would keep returning him to office every four years--no matter what he might say or not say. If Kerry had the charm and charisma of Clinton, I'd be very worried about Bush's chances in November.
