The White House would be wise to see that Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City South Dakota is not closed as the Pentagon has suggested it be. Doing so would put freshman Republican Senator John Thune in an impossible position and make it very hard for him to be faithful to the party and the Bush administration. R.
