A Blue Moon?

Saturday marks the second full moon of the month. The last time a month saw two full moons was back in November 2001. (It won't happen again in North America until May 2007). I'm facsinated by how many different meanings have been historically attributed to a blue moon. Sky and Telescope does an excellent job of tackling the question of what exactly is a blue moon?

Character Counts

Headlines like this gives me pause: Chaplain who gave benediction was character witness to terror supporter. You would think the Dems would be more careful about this sort of thing--especially while trying to make the case that they're tough on terror.

What a Mooron

I saw Michael Moore's "documentary" in Memphis the weekend it came out. As I sat down in my seat, a guy sitting on my aisle asked "Who in here is a Republican?" I let him know that I was. He dryly responded with contempt that "all Republicans should be killed; that's the only way to keep them from voting." Now while I know that all Democrats aren't that vitriolic or inflamatory, I knew that I was sitting down to a film that would test my nerves. But after seeing the film, it's not Moore's movie that bothers me; instead, its the left's intellectually bankrupt embracement of something that is so deceptive and dishonest. I expect insanity from one man such as Moore. I hate to see, though, that that insanity is received so warmly by a party that represents roughly half the country. If you have the time, Dave Kopel has an excellent essay:  "Fifty-nine Deceits in Fahrenheit 9/11."  It's an exhaustive work (as anyone who's seen the film would know it has to be) that pretty much puts to rest any doubt about who's really on the right side of the issues...

Democracy No More?

I heard Kerry on TV today talking about how he's going to "restore democracy" to America. Is he suggesting that we don't have a democracy right now? I'm not at all sure what he means by this or if he really intends to imply that Bush has taken away our democracy. This is the kind of empty meaningless rhetoric that spells trouble for Kerry. So long as nothing substantive comes out of his mouth, I'll remain confident about Bush's prospects in November.

Kerry in Space

Things like this are simply too good to be true. It appears as though the Kerry camp is distraught over how to deal with the pictures of their man in a clean suit as he tours a biofacility at NASA. It's hard to imagine why. His resemblance to Herman Munster in a Wonka Chocolate Factory is only barely discernable. Anyway, the Kerry team is claiming NASA leaked the photos. Kerry campaign manager, Mary Beth Cahill, said on Fox News when asked if she thought NASA was up to a dirty trick: "Well, what do you think? No photos were supposed to be taken." (See the Drudge Report for the full transcript). I guess this means that NASA is actually working under the auspices of the vast right wing conspiracy.

Beginning a Blog

For a while now, I've wanted to try my hand at blogging. It seems that its slowly evolving from a cult phenomenom to a more mainstream practice, and I'm beginning to see why. It's easy, quick, and an excellent way to record thoughts, links, pictures, etc that you would otherwise forget about. In any case, its called "Right Space" for three reasons: I favor the aptly named political right, I love space exploration and anything space related, and finally, "Right Space" was the first available name I could find. So here it is--another blog. We'll see where this thing goes...
